The key word for describing Dwarf Fortress is " complex".

If you intend to play this game for any longer than five minutes without dismissing it as a glorified Microsoft Excel spreadsheet, keep that in mind. Both modes have no way to win, but hundreds of ways to lose, and hence the community motto, Losing is Fun. Adventure Mode plays like a very freeform roguelike - similar to NetHack or Rogue according to some - in the vast procedural world that your fortresses inhabit. The main game is Fortress Mode, which plays like a dizzyingly complicated hybrid of Dungeon Keeper and The Sims, only that all your little people are now stumpy, manic-depressive alcoholics. It's not there yet-it's technically still in alpha-but it already has about two games' worth of content, and an extremely fanatical and devoted fanbase. And to cap it all off, it intends to do it all in extended ASCII character graphics. Its goal is to be less of a video game and more like a supremely complex fantasy world simulator, simulating dozens of nations and hundreds of thousands of characters over a thousand years or more, where you can watch history unfold from a godlike perspective, or take the role of any character or civilization, and make history. Strictly speaking, the game is really two games: the game it is right now, and the game it hopes to be. The brothers began work on the game in 2002, and it saw its first alpha-release in 2006. PS: I'll probably use this for some quick cleanup, though.Slaves to Armok: God of Blood - Chapter II: Dwarf Fortress is part Construction and Management simulation and part Roguelike created by brothers Tarn "Toady One" and Zach Adams. The downside being it requires interaction? What I was looking at was more of the minecart stop, that requires no supervision/interaction after construction.īUT, thanks a bunch for making that vid! You should add it to a Workshop guide! That's a Quantum Dump Stockpile, right? An alternative sort of quantum stockpile. You need to unforbid them before dwarfs can use them. I use a small stockpile to automatically bring items close to the dump zone, then I pile it all on one tile.Īfter the items are hauled to a dump zone, they're automatically marked as forbidden. Not shown in the video, but you want to pause any other dump zones so dwarfs haul items only where you want.ĭesignate the items for dumping, it doesn't matter if they're in a stockpile or not. Then I create a dump zone over the stockpile. You could avoid this by not using any stockpiles for those items, or using links etc. This is important, otherwise dwarfs will try to haul the items away if they aren't stockpiled. Originally posted by Deviant:I made a quick video going over the steps.įirst I setup a stockpile that's appropriate for the items. What must a Quantum Stockpile avoid, not have, or avoid antagonizing? :)Īnd, not a pre-Premium guide, since those have many mentions of things that just aren't in the Steam version as well as hotkeys/etc. I've tried BlindIRL, Teemo, Furtherreading, Twisted Logic (IIRC). What is a common thing that a DF vet would "assume" a guide/tute viewer would do, but that they don't often even think about anymore? That's all I can think of as I keep going through these things and doing exactly what the presenter does, to no useful effect. the Manager/Order system doesn't even see the Bauxite in the Feeder stockpile, now, much less the pile in the receiving stockpile.

The BEST I've been able to achieve is to feed Bauxite from one feeder stockpile to the Cart and then into the Receiving 1x1 stockpile. I've been trying to set a Bauxite stockpile to use to make Bauxite Bricks. The best that I can do is get them to dump the items in one 1x1 Stockpile.īut, no Workshop/Order appears to be able to "See" those items. I've tried several different Quantum Stockpile Tutorials.
